Put Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Checks on the Calendar

Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms deserve a regular place on the home maintenance calendar. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends testing alarms monthly. Follow the instructions for your particular alarm for testing, power, replacement, and end-of-life notices.

When planning an electrical visit, tell us about missing, damaged, aging, or troublesome alarms. If available, share the model and date information without disturbing wiring. Alarm replacement and interconnection need to be reviewed for the home and the products involved.
